Off Road Power

Off Road Power 2009
Saturday 22nd & Sunday 23rd August - Santa Pod Raceway

We were lucky enough to have great weather throughout the Off Road Power Weekend and the Santa Pod Raceway was taken over by the unfamiliar site of 4x4’s. This brand new event gave 4x4 owners a great opportunity to get involved themselves weather their off roader was fast, shiny or even muddy!

The track provided some great entertainment throughout the weekend and late into Saturday evening with some great 4x4 match ups including a race between what looked to be down scaled monster trucks. There were many other special cars on the track as well including a 3 tonne chevy C10 and a 10 second golf as Off Road Power shared the drag strip with a Saturday Night Special and RWYB. And who can forget some magnificent passes by the one and only Fireforce 3 jet car which seemingly couldn't stop going faster and faster each run.

The provisional winners of the RWYB classes that were entered were:

Barry Hive
Range Rover
21.026s @ 62.64mph

Class D
Andrew Metcalfe
Defender 90
14.8006s @ 93.68mph

Class E
C Fawcett
Land Rover TDS
16.34s @ 79.96mph

As well as the proper drag strip, for the first time ever we made an off road drag strip where competitors raced over 1/16th of a mile to find out who had the fastest accelerating off roader – off road! There were some blisteringly quick times and the racing was enjoyed by all who took part.

Next to the Mud RWYB we had a specially built Off Road Course, again for the first time at Santa Pod and this was built so that it put even the most hardened off roader through it’s paces and this was by no means uneventful as more than one participant took a tumble and put their vehicle’s on its side.

The Show n Shine was popular and had so many brilliant entries it really was a tough one to call. There were monster truck style land rovers, Modified Nissans and everything in between, but the eventual winner was Denzil Considine with his immaculate Range Rover.

The Mud n Grime competition took place on Sunday and unsurprisingly turned out some seriously dirty machines with loads of entries straight off of the Off Road Course and Mud RWYB. The winner of the trophy for the dirtiest car in the Mud n Grime line up was Barry Nettleship in his Land Rover Discovery.

The monster energy entertainment team put on a great display with some gravity defying stunts on both their FMX ramps and in their infamous Ball of Steel which actually saw these insane riders upside down on just 2 wheels.

Finally we would just like to say a big thank you to all of the clubs that came to the event as there were some great displays and your efforts were not unnoticed. We hope you had an enjoyable weekend and would love to see you back here again soon.

That’s not quite everything as there is still a whole gallery to be uploaded and winners details from all competitions so please check back here to take a look.
